Student recruitment in Eastern Europe

Project category:

Research – student recruitment in Eastern Europe.

Project duration:
12/2008 – 08/2009

Main question:
Which of the new EU countries offers the biggest potential for universities to recruit student?

Goals of the Project:
Growing expertise on student recruitment in Eastern Europe:

  • Which of the countries is most suitable?
  • How large is the potential for student recruitment within these countries?
  • How does the recruitment process function within these countries?

Brief outline of the situation:

Since countries like Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Slovakia entered the European Union, it has become easier for young people to go and study, work and travel in other EU countries. In many of these countries an increase in average salary, living standards and larger student mobility can be monitored. These factors make the New EU countries more attractive for universities to recruit students.

Research method:
The project is an analysis of documents and researches from different organisations like; UNESCO, OECD, EUROSTAT, ENIC-NARIC and Central Statistical Organisations of the given countries. Besides that interviews with people and organisations who already have recruited students in these countries.
