The German schooling reform - Advantages for international universities

In Germany it was decided to reduce the secondary, pre-university schooling period from 9 to 8 years. This change in the schooling system is a rolling process starting in 2008 and ending in 2016, across the different German states.
A consequence of the change is a temporary doubling in the number of German school-leavers with a university qualification, resulting in a shortage of study places in the respective provinces.
For many foreign universities and colleges, this is a unique opportunity to fill their unused capacities.
The parents and students are concerned about this development. They are afraid of possibly not getting a study place.

Mobility of German students increases

In order to start the study course of their choice, German students are becoming increasingly mobile due to the shortage of study places in Germany. They easily move to other German regions or go abroad to study.

Doubling high-school graduation classes: Use the potential

This presents great opportunities for institutions located outside Germany. You have the ability to offer the prospective students a new perspective, and at the same time you can fill the unused capacities of your study programmes. It is essential to take action now in order to benefit from the increasing number of German high-school graduates.
